About the Building Inspection and Zoning Department
The Building Inspector is responsible for reviewing construction plans, issuing and approving permits, and conducting inspections of construction in progress to ensure compliance with State/Uniform Building codes and local ordinances. He serves as the Zoning Administrator, on the Planning Commission and is a Certified Floodplain Manager.
What many people do not realize is that most home improvements require building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and or zoning permits. The primary reason for this requirement is to ensure that structures are built safely, and in conformance with current codes and local ordinances, but it also helps to ensure that residential contractors are held responsible for their workmanship.
